-kan tipsa om MAPS, bra elektronika, lite som en blandning mellan hot chip och stone roses.
A brief description of ‘shoetronica’, then (with tongue firmly in cheek):
“Shoetronica is a genre of alternative rock that emerged from the United Kingdom in 2007. The shoetronica sound featured extensive use of processed beats, and indistinguishable vocal melodies that blended into the creative noise of the guitars.”

Over the past week I have gotten the chance to finally sit down and listen to the upcoming record from Northampton’s James Chapman, the one man show behind Maps. It’s called We Can Create and I couldn’t recommend this enough. It’s amazing that these amazing sounds were done solely from Chapman’s bedroom without the use of computers while relying only on a 16-track to write and record songs.
This is music you wish was released more often, as this is electronica done right. I think i’ve managed to play this album numerous times at work each night this week, and I still can’t believe how fucking good this is. We Can Create probably has the most in common with The Notwist’s Neon Golden in terms of sound, as it shares similar traits with great vocals and solid electronic arrangements. The result is a sound that comes off as very well-polished and professional. It also doesn’t hurt that the album produced by Valgeir Sigurdsson, who’s worked with acts such as Sigur Rós, Björk and Múm.
This one is definitely a keeper folks, so you should walk run to pick this up. It’s one of the most rewarding listening experiences i’ve had so far this year, and it reminds me of how wonderful it is to discover great music. Maps also has an EP titled Start Something that was released last year, that contains two tracks that will be included on We Can Create when it’s released on June 19th via Mute.
