Våghastigheten är en tämligen ointressant parameter, men är mycket lätt att mäta. Man mäter enklast genom att ta fasta på induktans och kapacitans:

v= 1 / rt(L*C) [m/s]

För en koax-kabel med homogent dielektrika är våghastigheten helt enkelt ljusets hastighet i vakumm dividerat med dielektricitetskonstanten
