getting a pair of pi60s to the USA...

Dear Forum Members....

I am very interested in trying to obtain a pair of pi60s delivered to the US, perhaps in Wenge or Walnut. I am aware that the QM60 is supposed to be offered in the US, but I think it would be out of my price range. Thus, I was hoping to order a pi60s kit and solder the cross-overs and due the construction myself, assuming it would be less expansive. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Dear Ben,

I don't think that would be possible as the Constructer Ingvar Öhman requiers that they have been heard and explained at a demo here in Sweden first.

Thereafter he requires a good thinkover before ordering.
This would mean that you would be making the journey to Sweden at least twice to be able to obtain these speakers.

Also, the construction of the pi60s is very complicated. I doubt it will be made by anyone except by Ingvar if they are to be accurate.

When thinking about you making two times travel to Sweden to get these, I do think that the QM60 in this case still will be the best choise regarding the price at the end.

Welcome to the forum! I can see that somebody's been doing his homework. Good detective work, I must say, or maybe not so difficult with Google nowadays...

Anyway, I know that it is IÖ's principle that one has to attend one of his listening/lecturing sessions to get the full picture about and history behind the Pi60s before one may purchace a kit. Furthermore, it's my understanding that there's a waiting list - even for the kits.

But I firmly recommend, no I urge you to call Ingvar himself, as he's the only person who can give you a complete and correct answer.

Ben; as you might now Ino Audio does not ship to the US or anywhere else for that matter. He is very strict with that. Ino Audio is reserved for the Swedish market with the exception that he sells to anyone willing to come to audition them. Buyers have flown in from across the globe to do that.

He does not sell pi60s unless you audition first, so in any case you would have to fly over here in person. Normally you are not allowed to place an order during the audition but perhaps an exception could be arranged if you made it over here.

He does not carry the veneered boxes in stock for pi60s, which also means anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months delivery. You would not be able to bring a pair back with you.

The only viable option would be to buy a used pair and convince the seller that they would ship them to you in the US. It would cost you though and I think it would be very hard to find a pair unless you are willing to pay a premium.

The risk involved with that kind of transaction (damage to speakers in transit, high value item etc) means that anyone selling a pair like the one you are after would much rather sell them at the domestic market.

I would personally never bother to ship a pair of pi60's abroad. I sold my pair in a matter of days here when switching to a divided system (stand speakers and bass modules from Ino).

If would be much easier for you to order a pair of QM60's. Considering the price of pi60s and freight and insurance involved it would work out pretty much the same.

Oh, did you want to build the cabinets yourself?
He does not allow that for pi60s - that is for sure. Not even if you are a schooled carpenter.

It is much too complicated a design and he does NOT want inferior cabinets floating around the market due to errors / misinterpretations of the cabinet enclosure.

I would not even bother calling him asking to buy a speaker/crossover kit as he does not allow it in any case.

My advice is as stated before; head for the second hand market and be patient and be prepared to open up the wallet.
We could help you with finding a pair on the domestic market but everything from sealing the deal to shipment is on you.

Just click on the "Sök!" button to check out the classifieds. pi60s are not often seen but sometimes a pair pops up.

Another problem is that no ino audio speakers come in boxes. ino audio dont even ship in sweden. So if shipped you or someone would have to find the box to ship them.

Get a friend here in Sweden and settle for the pi60 DIY-kit without boxes. :D Shipping costs for elements and filter to the u.s would not be more than 150 us dollars. Order the speakerboxes from a local carpenter.

Jag hade litet PM utbyte med Ben för några år sedan på ett annat forum. Jag har då erbjudit mig att på ngt sätt hjälpa till om han nu skulle vilja köpa talarna. I första hand rekommenderade jag kontakt med IÖ och att skriva på Faktiskt. Vilket han nu gjorde. Han PM-ade mig samtidigt och jag svarade. Har inte fått svar på det ännu.
